Vicksburg National Military Park - A treasure that must be experienced, this federally maintained landmark can be taken in via a 16-mile, self-guided driving tour. Offering a stirring glimpse back at this nation's tumultuous past, the tour begins at the Visitors Center, where life-sized exhibits and artifacts from the Siege of Vicksburg are on display. An 18 minute film which recounts the campaign is shown on the hour and half-hour. You may also stop in at the Cairo Museum, which features its name sake, an iron clad ship recovered from the depths of the mighty Mississippi.
